Win the ultimate Lincoln-filled trip to D.C.

Abraham Lincoln portrait

A new portrait of Abraham Lincoln with his sons Willie and Tad is now on display at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C. (Newseum)

Ford’s Theatre Society, the Newseum and Willard InterContinental Hotel have launched Lincoln X3, a Lincoln-themed sweepstakes in Washington, D.C., as part of next year’s commemoration of President Abraham Lincoln’s legacy at the 150th anniversary of his death.

The Lincoln X3 package includes two tickets to the world premiere play “The Widow Lincoln” at Ford’s Theatre, two tickets to the Newseum including the upcoming exhibit “President Lincoln Is Dead: The New York Herald Reports the Assassination,” and a two-night deluxe stay at the historic Willard InterContinental, where Lincoln stayed prior to his inauguration.

At the contest announcement, held at the Willard InterContinental on Pennsylvania Avenue, representatives from the Newseum, Ford’s Theatre and the Willard InterContinental unveiled two newly commissioned Lincoln portraits by artist John Gable, which will hang in the lobby of the luxury hotel.

“The Widow Lincoln,” a world premiere play at Ford’s Theatre Jan. 23 to Feb. 22, 2015, portrays a very human Mary Todd Lincoln in the aftermath of her husband’s death as she mourns the post-war life they will never share. “President Lincoln Is Dead,” at the Newseum Feb. 13 to Sept. 13, 2015, brings together all seven New York Herald special editions from April 15, 1865, for the first time since that year, including a recently discovered 8:45 a.m. “extra” that was the first edition of the Herald to report Lincoln’s death.
