As a schoolgirl, Julieanna Richardson was struck by the lack of black people in her history books. Using her skills as a television producer, she launched The HistoryMakers to collect the stories of African Americans, both famous and unsung. With more than 2,000 interviews, the project is the world’s largest archive of black oral history.
