Statement on the passing of Gwen Ifill

Gwen Ifill

We are profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Gwen Ifill, an esteemed journalist and a great friend of the Newseum. Gwen’s dedication to journalism, commitment to excellence and her bright spirit led her to become one of America’s most trusted and respected news anchors. Ever gracious with her time, Gwen was a frequent moderator of Newseum programs, often interviewing her peers about their own careers in journalism. Her quick smile, infectious laugh and earnest curiosity made for many memorable moments. In 2013, the Newseum presented Gwen with the Al Neuharth Award for Excellence in the Media, in recognition of her lifetime of work promoting quality journalism and the First Amendment. Everyone at the Newseum will miss her dearly and we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends and colleagues at the PBS NewsHour.

  1. Gwen,
Where ever you are I thank you. I hope you are at peace for I don’t know whats on the other side. You have more class & dignity then anyone I’ve been exposed to,expecially in the public eye. However I see now that was really you.Not just the person I saw at 7:30 each evening. I hope you can see from above the imprint you have left on us all. You are greatly missed. Our society is different for the better because of you. Your smile resonates on.
