September Is for Seniors

September is for Seniors

September is the best time for seniors to visit the Newseum! All month, the Newseum is offering a special combo ticket for seniors 65 and over that includes admission to the Newseum, a “Fighting Fake News” class and a free guided highlights tour of the museum (a $30 value) for just $19.95, plus tax.

What’s Included?

Newseum Admission

Find out for yourself why everyone is calling the Newseum the best experience Washington, D.C., has to offer. Each of the seven levels in this museum is packed with interactive exhibits that explore free expression and the five freedoms of the First Amendment: religion, speech, press, assembly and petition. Whether you have just a few hours or want to spend all day, there is something for everyone at the Newseum.

“Fighting Fake News: How to Outsmart Trolls and Troublemakers” class

Explore the complexity of digital citizenship in this 50-minute class, including the threat of falling for fake information. Examine cases that bring to life the challenges of today’s media landscape and leave with an easy-to-implement strategy for staying a step ahead of fake news. Discuss questions such as, what qualifies as fake news? Why should you care what’s real and what’s not, and how can you tell what to trust when the motivations behind news stories aren’t always clear?

First Amendment Highlights Tour

Our most popular tour offers a 60-minute guided experience of the museum with one of our trained tour leaders. You’ll see some of the museum’s best exhibits, including the Berlin Wall Gallery, the News Corporation News History Gallery and the Time Warner World News Gallery.

Haven’t seen enough? After your tour, catch a movie in one of the museum’s 15 theaters, or grab lunch in The Food Section, which offers an extensive selection of hot entrees, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, snacks and desserts.

Fine print: The free classes and tours are available exclusively to seniors age 65 and up on a first-come, first-served basis, Monday through Friday during the month of September (excluding Labor Day, Sept. 4). The free class will be offered at 10:45 a.m., and the free tour will depart from The New York Times Great Hall at 1:30 p.m. To secure your spot, check in at the Newseum admission desk upon your arrival. At that time, visitors may choose to attend either the class, the tour or both, as long as space is available. All sales are final. Not valid in combination with any additional discounts or promotions.
