Exhibit Writer

Job Type: Full time

WANTED: An exhibit writer with a love of research, a flair for storytelling, an eye for detail and a passion for news and the First Amendment. The Newseum is seeking a full-time writer who will develop, research, write and edit content for permanent and changing exhibits. The successful candidate will be a motivated idea person with strong research, writing and editing skills who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. He or she will also display an ability to translate complex stories into clear, compelling exhibit text. A journalistic background is a plus, but is not required. Please include two writing samples with your application.

Responsibilities include:

  • Researching, developing, writing and editing scripts for exhibits
  • Developing concepts for exhibits
  • Researching and updating Newseum databases
  • Keeping abreast of issues related to the news media and the First Amendment to inform future exhibits


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Five years of experience as an exhibit writer or developer
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Strong background or interest in history, First Amendment and free press issues
  • The ability to work on a variety of projects in a fast-paced team environment
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • High motivation levels
  • Creative thinking skills
