Associate Producer/Assistant Editor

Job Type: Full time

Location: Washington, DC


The Associate Producer/Assistant Editor will work collaboratively with creative teams to support video and multimedia production for Newseum exhibition, online, and internal uses.

Under the direction of the Director of Production/Executive Producer, the responsibilities of the Associate Producer/Assistant Editor include:

General: Support producers and editors with creative, content and technical needs. Assist on shoots and conduct occasional b-roll shooting when necessary. Mentor and oversee work of production assistant intern.

Licensing and clearances:  Work closely with producers and editors to conduct footage and image research. Obtain and license stock/archival footage and photos, with a clear understanding of best practices for rights and clearances. Manage relationship with stock footage vendors to negotiate rates and acquire screener and master footage.

Post-production: Assist with post-production activities, including edits of internal videos and content for social platforms.  Supervise captioning, descriptive audio, branding and encoding.  Create digital outputs, including captioned masters and textless splits.  Ensure appropriate project media management, archive digital video assets, oversee video assets and metadata within Newseum’s digital asset management system.



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Two to four years experience working in video production, including broadcast/online productions, documentary production, advertising/marketing
  • Aptitude for research and archival image licensing
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder
  • Proven organizational skills and demonstrated ability with digital asset management
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with post-production best practices, technologies and processes
  • Experience with videography a plus
  • Interest in history, First Amendment and free expression issues
