Visitor Services Representative

Job Type: Part time

Location: Washington, DC


  • Provide outstanding customer service to Newseum visitors, while adhering to departmental policies and procedures
  • Representatives will be cross-trained to meet and assist visitors in all museum areas to include crowd control, information desk, coat check, theater and interactive operations, gallery representatives, tour group greeting and more
  • Responsible for familiarity with all museum galleries, exhibits and events
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and responds promptly to visitors’ needs
  • Comfortable speaking publicly in front of large groups of people in a clear and concise fashion


  • Must enjoy working with the public
  • Must be willing and able to function in all of the Visitor Services positions (indoor and outdoor)
  • Must be prompt and dependable
  • Must have open availability, including weekends. Willingness to work and maintain a rotating schedule which also include holidays and occasional training sessions
  • Must be a team player, demonstrating flexibility and initiative
  • Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Must possess the ability to work with a diverse staff and public under fast-paced, ever-changing conditions
  • Interest in museums, history, and/or news a plus
  • Ability and willingness to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability and willingness to lift 30 pounds
  • Minimum of high school diploma
  • Must possess basic computer skills and ability to conduct Internet searches
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment background and/or drug screenings
