Location: Palo Alto, CA

Description

Intern will assist the Education Department with creating educational materials in partnership with Palo Alto High School journalism teacher Esther Wojcicki. Based in Palo Alto or the surrounding area, the part-time employee will work in person with Wojcicki and work remotely with NewseumED staff in Washington, D.C. They will be required to adhere to Newseum Education Department practices and procedures.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Serve as a liason between NewseumED curriculum staff and Palo Alto High School journalism teacher Esther Wojcicki
  • Assist with researching and developing online and on-site media literacy curriculum for grades 3 to college
  • Conduct web and database research for historic and contemporary media literacy examples to identify primary sources for use in current and future curriculum materials
  • Conduct market research and literature reviews to identify successful media literacy curriculum and content providers
  • Assist with creating, organizing, maintaining digital resources for NewseumED.org and on-site programming
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Interest in an education or journalism career
  • Interest in history or museums
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with internet research methods and sources
  • Familiarity with Google Hangouts or other video conferencing programs
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Photoshop
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse and fast-paced team environment
  • Mature judgment, discretion and professionalism in communicating information and determining reliability of sources.
  • Must be available to work in Palo Alto 15-20 hours per week, but scheduling is flexible.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or possess unrestricted work authorization documentation
