Each summer masses of children suffer from polio. In many cases, the disease leaves the children paralyzed and condemns some to live with iron lungs to help them breathe. It even got the president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. President Roosevelt helped establish the March of Dimes, a polio research fund-raiser. On March 27, 1953, a University of Pittsburgh team finds a vaccine that effectively combats a parent's worst nightmare.
