The
world stands on the brink of nuclear war when the United States
begins its blockade of Cuba on Oct. 22. President Kennedy orders
the move after he learns Cuba is building nuclear missile sites.
The Soviet Union is supplying missiles and equipment for the sites.
The Soviets threaten war if the United States attacks Cuba. But
on Oct. 28 the Soviets agree to remove the weapons and the crisis
eases.
