Charles
David "Doc" Herrold establishes the first regular broadcast station
using a primitive microphone and a tall antennae on the roof of the
Garden City Bank Building in San Jose, Calif. Herrold also begins
the Herrold College of Engineering and Wireless. Few have receivers
but the quality of signal often is surprising. By 1912, signals from
multiple transmitters are mixing, so much so that Congress enacts
the Radio Act to license voice transmitters.
