Orville
Wright flies a 750-pound aircraft, powered by a gasoline engine,
for 12 seconds across the sand hills of Kitty Hawk, N.C. The date
is Dec. 17. He travels about 120 feet. His brother, Wilbur, later
stays aloft for 59 seconds. It's the first time man flies in a powered
machine. The world is never the same.
