With World War I over and the last of America's troops home from France, the U.S. Senate on March 19 rejects the Versailles Treaty for the second time, which prevents U.S. participation in the League of Nations. President Woodrow Wilson is pushing for the League as an international organization that can mediate international disputes. He later wins the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
