The Democratic Convention opens Aug. 28 in Chicago to dissension inside among the delegates and outside between police and Vietnam War protesters. The convention nominates Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. Outside, thousands of demonstrators denied parade permits by Mayor Richard J. Daley confront police and national guardsmen who use clubs, rifle butts, tear gas and mace to keep them from marching on the convention auditorium.
