A Livingston Awards Event: Guards With Guns: Are America’s Security Guards a Safeguard or Hazard @ Knight Conference Center | Washington | District of Columbia | United States

2015 Livingston Award co-winners Shoshana Walter and Ryan Gabrielson talk about “Hired Guns,” their series on the haphazard system of lax laws and weak screening standards for armed security guards, published by the Center for Investigative Reporting.

David Greene, host of NPR’s “Morning Edition,” will moderate the program.

The Livingston Awards for Young Journalists at the University of Michigan honor outstanding achievement by professionals under the age of 35 in local, national and international reporting.

Walter is a staff reporter for The Center for Investigative Reporting, where she investigates the U.S. criminal justice system and the private and public police. Gabrielson covers the criminal justice system for ProPublica. He spent five years at The Center for Investigative Reporting, where he covered public safety.

The event is sponsored by the Livingston Awards for Young Journalists, the University of Michigan and the Knight Foundation.
