The Newseum welcomes Jon Stewart for a screening of his new film, “Rosewater,” which chronicles the true story of Iranian journalist Maziar Bahari and marks “The Daily Show” host’s directorial debut.
Bahari was arrested in 2009 while covering the Iranian presidential elections and detained for 118 days in the notorious Evin prison, where he was interrogated and tortured. The Committee to Protect Journalists and other press freedom groups led a campaign to free him and focus global attention on jailed journalists.
Following the screening, Stewart and Bahari will discuss the making of the film, the real-life story that inspired it and the continuing risks journalists face around the world. “PBS NewsHour” co-anchor Gwen Ifill will moderate the discussion.
“Rosewater” opens nationwide on Nov. 14.
This program is exclusive to Newseum Sustaining members and members of the Friends of the First Amendment Society. A VIP dessert reception with Jon Stewart will follow the program.
