Journalism in the Trump Era: Assessing Press Freedom in the United States @ Walter and Leonore Annenberg Theater | Washington | District of Columbia | United States

As the nation marks the first year of the Donald Trump administration, the Newseum and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) present a program examining the state of press freedom in the United States.

The program will review the trends from the first year of the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker, a new nonpartisan website dedicated to documenting press freedom violations across the United States. All year, the tracker has been documenting abuses of journalists including arrests, equipment searches and seizures, physical attacks and border stops.

The program features:

  • Jim Acosta, chief White House correspondent, CNN
  • Melinda Henneberger, editorial writer and columnist, The Kansas City Star
  • John Roberts, chief White House correspondent, Fox News Channel
  • April Ryan, White House correspondent, American Urban Radio Networks

The discussion will be moderated by Gene Policinski, chief operating officer of the Newseum Institute.

In addition, CPJ executive director Joel Simon will give a brief overview of trends from the press freedom tracker.
