Best in 2011 Online Journalism Awarded
BBC News, The Globe and Mail, Voices of San Diego and OWNI were the top winners in their respective categories at the annual banquet of the Online Journalism Awards, which was held Sept. 24 in Boston.
New to the competition this year was news produced for any digital device.
Now in their 12th year, the OJA's, sponsored by the Online News Association, are the only all-digital media awards celebrating the best of online journalism across the globe.
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation donated a total of $33,000 for eight awards. Two awards of $2,500 each were also awarded, courtesy of the Gannett Foundation.
Interviews with the 2011 winners will be featured in an interactive kiosk exhibit located within the Newseum's Bloomberg Internet, TV and Radio Gallery, and on Newseum.org.
The exhibit also includes milestones and innovations from a decade of achievement in digital journalism, focusing on the works of previous OJA winners, who put the early days of online journalism in historical perspective.
