Journalists Memorial Gallery
A Dangerous Profession
Journalists throughout the world face peril every day. Hundreds have died covering wars or other dangerous assignments, and many others have been targeted for murder in retaliation for their reporting. The Journalists Memorial recognizes the men and women who sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of news.
Each year, the Newseum adds names to the Journalists Memorial to represent all journalists — known and unknown — who died that year while reporting and gathering news.
By recognizing this sacrifice, the memorial shines a light on all who laid down their lives and reminds the world of the fundamental human rights of freedom of the press and freedom of speech.
