Newseum, ONA Honors Best in Online Journalism
The Newseum and the Online News Association, the world's largest membership organization of digital journalists, have teamed up to develop an interactive kiosk exhibit featuring innovative and seminal work by winners of the 2009 Online Journalism Awards.
The OJAs, now in their 10th year, are the only all-digital media awards celebrating the best of online journalism across the globe.
Interviews with the award winners — chosen for their innovative take on online news, either in coverage, format or technology used — will be featured in the Digital News Gallery within the Bloomberg Internet, TV and Radio Gallery, and on newseum.org. The 2009 winners were announced Saturday, Oct. 3, at ONA's awards banquet at the conclusion of the group's annual conference.
"The Newseum chronicles centuries of news events through newspapers, television broadcasts, radio reports and films, and our new partnership with the Online News Association to capture the best digital journalism ensures that our collection will remain as current as today's top stories," said Ken Paulson, Newseum president and chief operating officer.
The exhibit will expand to highlight milestones and innovations from a decade of achievement in digital journalism, focusing on the work and commentary of previous OJA winners, who will provide historical perspective to the early days of online journalism.
"Too much important digital journalism is disappearing before our eyes, nearly as quickly as it's published," said ONA executive director Jane McDonnell. "This project will be a small first step toward an archive that will capture the best of new media for posterity."
