Newseum Private Tours

Enhance your Newseum experience through exclusive guided tours led by the museum’s exhibits, broadcasting and technology staff.

The tours are perfect for corporate groups, conference participants, retirement communities, church groups or even families looking for a unique way to add excitement to wedding, birthday, anniversary or other celebrations.

Tours can be booked during regular Newseum operating hours for $35 per person ($350 minimum). For an additional fee, you can schedule a one-hour private, guided tour before or after hours.

Newseum Highlights Tour

From the earliest newspapers to today’s breaking news, this tour of the Newseum’s 14 major galleries provides an overview of the museum’s collections and exhibits, including the history of print and broadcast news, Pulitzer Prize–winning photographs, the Berlin Wall and the global sweep of today’s news.

Headlines of History Tour

Dive deep into the Newseum’s display of more than 350 historic newspapers, newsbooks and magazines spanning nearly 500 years and see how the greatest news stories of all time were reported. Interactive kiosks provide close-up views of a digital archive of more than 1,000 historic front pages and magazines.

Civil Rights Tour

Explore the rich legacy of African Americans in news history, with a special focus on the civil rights era. Since 1827, the influential black press has been a powerful voice against social injustice. See historic front pages and artifacts that tell the story of the black press and the men and women who broke barriers to report the news.

Women in Journalism Tour

Learn about the role of women in news history through stories, artifacts, photos and video. Throughout history, journalism was largely a man’s world, and women were mostly relegated to lower-rung jobs. The movement of women into the workplace propelled them front and center — to Page One and the television anchor slot.

Knight Studio Tour

Lights, camera, action! Find out how television programs are produced with this exclusive tour of the Newseum’s high-definition broadcast studios. Go behind the scenes to see the greenrooms and control rooms used by the Newseum and outside media organizations for programs such as ABC’s "This Week With Christiane Amanpour."

Technology Tour

Get an inside look at the state-of-the-art data and telecommunications network that makes the Newseum one of the most technologically advanced museums in the world. The tour includes a visit to the rarely seen central equipment room, where staff will explain the technology behind the Newseum’s interactive exhibits, video displays and theaters.

Gallery Tours

Newseum exhibit staff will share behind-the-scenes insights about the historic artifacts and images in a gallery of your choice, including the News Corporation News History Gallery, Berlin Wall Gallery, Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery and the Bloomberg Internet, TV and Radio Gallery. Tours also are available of special temporary exhibits.

Customized Tours

Tours can be customized to suit the interests and needs of your group. Explore a specific theme, such as the First Amendment, photojournalism or international news. Or learn about the creation, design and architecture of the world’s most interactive museum. Age-appropriate tours for families and youth groups also can be arranged.
