WASHINGTON — The "Reel Journalism with Nick Clooney" film series began on a high note Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, with a sold-out screening of "Broadcast News."
The film series, co-produced by the Newseum and the American University School of Communcation, is hosted by veteran newsman and American University journalist-in-residence Nick Clooney. Clooney led a panel discussion on "Broadcast News" with CBS News Executive Producer Susan Zirinsky — said to be the inspiration for the Holly Hunter character in the movie — and Bob Schieffer, veteran CBS News correspondent and host of "Face the Nation."
The "Reel Journalism" series presents sometimes accurate and sometimes questionable depictions of journalists and journalism. It also provides a forum for discussing the important role of the press in a democratic society.
Upcoming movies include "Good Night, and Good Luck," "Citizen Kane" and "All the President’s Men."
