Died in the explosion of TWA flight 800 on July 17 off the coast of Long Island, N.Y. An Emmy-winning sports producer, he was flying to Paris to head the network's coverage of the Tour de France bicycle race. It was to have been his last assignment before being laid off by ABC as it prepared to merge with Disney. His wife, Janet, and his 13-year-old daughter, Caitlin, also died in the aircraft explosion. He was 39.
