Gunned down Jan. 13 as he left his daily newspaper's office. Also wounded in the attack: the newspaper's owner and editor-in-chief Nourredine Guittoune, who had recently written stinging editorials against Islamic extremists. Aboulkacem was a 30-year-old researcher. Muslim extremists are blamed for his murder.
