Died Nov. 20 when the helicopter he was riding in lost control in thick fog, crashed into a mountain and exploded in Nagorno-Karabakh. All 23 persons aboard died, including the Azeri interior minister, peace negotiators and two Soviet generals. Azerbaijan claimed the aircraft was shot down; Armenia, at war with Azerbaijan, denied it.
