Died Nov. 23 in the crash of a hijacked Ethiopian airliner that went down in the Indian Ocean near the Comoros Islands. He was an award-winning Kenyan cameraman whose pictures of the 1984 famine in Ethiopia jolted the world into a huge relief effort. Half his left arm was blown away by a rocket while filming an exploding ammunition dump in Addis Ababa in 1991. He was 53 and had covered trouble spots in the Middle East, Africa and Asia for 30 years. He worked for Reuters Television and had opened his own firm, Camerapix.
