Shot and killed in his home Nov. 8 by unidentified gunmen. President of a local cultural foundation, Castro often opposed regional violence in his daily talk show on Radio Majagual. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for Sucre state assembly in violence-marred October elections. Local journalists believe Castro was killed because he called for an end to fighting between guerrillas and paramilitary forces. He was 36.
