Shot twice in the head Jan. 1 by gunmen at the Crown Hotel in Srinagar. Faktoo, a Kashmiri Muslim news reader, had been threatened by militant separatists opposed to his working for a state-owned television station. Journalists have been targets of violence since 1989 when an armed insurgency broke out against Indian rule in Kashmir.
