Found shot in the head May 23 near a highway in the country’s southern Guerrero state. Police reported that Bueno Leon also suffered a broken back. Director of the weekly newspaper Siete Dias, he had also served as media adviser for the state’s governor. Bueno Leon was one of seven journalists sued for defamation for publishing articles linking Mexico’s former Secretary of State Ruben Robles Catalan to the police slaying of a lawyer in 1995.
