Ambushed and killed July 15 by a man who fired 16 shots from an automatic weapon into his body. The 29-year-old editor of the newspaper La Prensa was killed in the small Mexican border town of San Luis Rio Colorado. Flores Gonzales had received death threats after printing stories about corruption and drug trafficking. A local drug lord was implicated in his murder.
