Shot repeatedly by two gunmen in Cali on May 19. A well-known reporter for the nightly news program "Noticias CVN," he reported frequently on drug trafficking and corruption. He was on his way to cover a peace rally when he was murdered. He was 42. Cortes is survived by a wife and two children. Police arrested his murderer.
