With a mobile phone to her ear, she pulled out of an intersection on the main road from Middlewich to Northwich in Cheshire into the path of an oncoming car. “Kate Alderson was an excellent young journalist. Her death has come as a tremendous shock to all her colleagues,” said John Bryant, deputy editor of The Times. She was 28.
