Shot once in the head at point-blank range May 13 outside his downtown apartment in Trelew, 750 miles south of Buenos Aires. Six people were charged with the assassination. He was publisher and editor of his Patagonian weekly newspaper and had written about irregularities in three legal suits against the directors of the Trelew Electrical Cooperative. Gangeme, 56, was known for investigating corruption in government and business and had reported threats to police but refused a bodyguard. Previously he worked as an editor at Radio Argentina and as a reporter for the Buenos Aires tabloid Cronica.
