Shot five times in the head and chest Aug. 13 while driving to his Bogota radio station where he was a morning host. Best known for his political satire, he contributed to both radio and television. Garzon, 36, had been appointed by President Andres Pastrana to a commission negotiating between the government and the National Liberation Army. He regularly worked as an intermediary to release hostages held by leftist rebels. “Jaime’s death ... was the result of a culture of violence that has grown throughout the century,” said his sister Marisol.
