Shot five times Oct. 28 on the doorstep of his St. Petersburg apartment. Founder of several firms, including the weekly newspaper Novosti St. Petersburg, he controlled 70% of the city's press distribution market. Two days before his murder, Chervonyuk announced plans for the alternative distribution of publications. In a contract-style hit, the 31-year-old publisher was shot dead in broad daylight. "It (Metropress Agency) is a market share worth fighting for," said investigative journalist Alexander Gorshkov.
