Killed during a Russian air attack on refugees fleeing from Grozny to Nazran Oct. 29. Cameraman for his independent Chechen television station in Grozny, he was covering escaping civilians when they came under attack. Despite warnings from colleagues, Gigayev and fellow cameraman Ramzan Mezhidov left their vehicle to film the carnage and were fatally wounded.
