Shot in the head in front of his fiancee Jan. 9 in Freetown. He was abducted from his home by Revolutionary United Front rebels who arrived with a list of journalists who were to be killed for their perceived anti-RUF coverage of the civil war. An on-air broadcaster, Cole had previously worked for the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service. He was killed two days before turning 35.
