Killed Aug. 10 in a car bomb blast in downtown Srinagar. Based in New Delhi, Bhatia was in Srinagar covering a cease-fire by Hizbul Mujahideen, a Kashmiri guerrilla group. He left his hotel around noon to investigate a grenade explosion. Fifteen minutes later a second blast killed Bhatia and 11 others. A senior photographer with his newspaper, Bhatia had joined the photo department in 1996 after two years with The Business Standard. Bhatia, 31, was married with one son.
