Shot May 8 in Freetown while covering demonstrations outside the home of Foday Sankoh, leader of the Revolutionary United Front. Sankoh's bodyguards fired into the crowd of demonstrators protesting the detention of United Nations soldiers by the rebels. Conteh was one of five killed. He worked for the independent weekly newspaper New Tablet.
