A journalist-technician for the private radio station Radio of the Somali People and a reporter for the newspaper Ayaamaha, Awale was killed Jan. 26 in an armed robbery. He was on assignment in Mogadishu's Bakara market and was one of four people killed when gunfire broke out between market guards and the escaping thieves.
