Shot through the heart in his office by a former public official Feb. 24 in the northern town of Baltasar Brum, Artigas province. He was the owner and editor of his independent radio station. Da Rosa had suggested in a Feb. 23 broadcast that Carmelo Nery Colombo was unfit to run for public office because of an investigation into financial irregularities. Colombo demanded air time to defend himself and was scheduled for noon Feb. 24. After storming into Da Rosa's office, Colombo opened fire and then killed himself. Da Rosa was 36.
