Ambushed Nov. 19 as he and three colleagues traveled on the road from Jalalabad to Kabul, Afghanistan's capital. The journalists were riding in the second and third vehicles in a four-truck convoy when they were stopped by six gunmen, taken into the mountains and shot. Also murdered: reporters Maria Grazia Cutuli and Julio Fuentes and photographer Azizullah Haidari. Burton, 33, was an Australian TV cameraman for his London-based wire service. One witness heard a gunman shout, "The Taliban are still here!" The journalists did not have an armed escort.
