Bedoya, 52, was shot dead April 27 by four gunmen on motorcycles as he got off a bus in the port city of Tumaco. A regional correspondent for the Bogota-based Communist Party newspaper, Voz, Bedoya worked for the publication about a year and a half. He had recently written a series of articles alleging collusion between government security forces and right-wing paramilitary gangs. "Those reports aggravated the number of threats against Flavio" from the gangs, said colleague Alvaro Angarita.
