Died along with two Japanese journalists and six others when their U.N.-chartered helicopter crashed Jan. 14 in northwestern Mongolia. The journalists were reporting on U.N. relief efforts in the area, where inhabitants had been suffering the effects of an extraordinarily cold and snowy winter. Batzorig was a photographer with a Mongolian agency not connected to the better-known Paris-based Gamma photo agency. The crash appears to have been the result of pilot error.
