Died Sept. 11 while covering the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Biggart's body was found four days later in the rubble near Ground Zero, close to the bodies of several firefighters. A freelance journalist, he lived near Union Square, not far from the World Trade Center, and had rushed to cover the story after hearing the first explosion. His wife, Wendy, called him on his cell phone, explaining that the attack was the work of terrorists. "I'm OK," she remembers him saying. "I'm with the firemen." Biggart, 54, died in the collapse of the North Tower. During his journalism career, which began in 1970, Biggart covered the Middle East, the Gulf War and Northern Ireland, among other hot spots.
