Both a newspaper publisher and cable television commentator, he was shot dead near his home Aug. 22 by a gunman in San Pablo, south of Manila. Local journalists said that their colleague, 51, had broken a story on his cable program implicating a local politician in a corrupt land deal. Police agree that he may have been killed because of his work as a journalist.
