Shot to death March 18 by two gunmen in the town of Arauca as he was entering the radio station. The men were waiting for him and fled on a motorcycle after killing the radio journalist. He also was a freelance reporter for El Tiempo, one of Colombia's major daily newspapers. He hosted several news broadcasts in which he covered the fighting between leftist rebels and paramilitary forces. He was critical of both sides and had been threatened. The owner of the station was killed in June 2002.
