Ayyoub, a correspondent for Al-Jazeera satellite television channel, was killed when two U.S. missiles hit Al-Jazeera's offices in Baghdad. Ayyoub had just finished a live report on the U.S. invasion of Iraq when the missiles struck. Al-Jazeera covers the Arab world and is based in Qatar. U.S. State Department spokesman Nabil Khoury said that the strike on Al-Jazeera's office was "a mistake, a grave mistake. It is something we all regret."
