A freelance cameraman from Iran, he was working for the BBC covering the war in Iraq. He was killed instantly April 2 when he stepped on a land mine as he got out of a vehicle. He was 52 and had worked for the BBC about three years. In 1988, he covered the Iraqi gassing of the Kurdish town of Halabja, where 5,000 died.
