A columnist and reporter for the weekly Dyaryo Banat in La Paz, he was talking on his cell phone on July 8 in front of his house when an unidentified gunman shot him in the head at close range. Local print and broadcast journalists believe that the killing was the result of articles he had written criticizing area officials. His colleagues refer to the murder as a "direct affront on freedom of the press." He was 55.
